OpenAI’s Sora video generator appears to have leaked

A group calling itself "Sora PR Puppets" has reportedly leaked access to OpenAI's unreleased video generator Sora through a frontend on Hugging Face, using early access authentication tokens. The group claims they did this to protest OpenAI's treatment of early testers, alleging unpaid labor and excessive PR control over content sharing. While the front end was quickly disabled, some users managed to generate 10-second videos at 1080p resolution. OpenAI responded that Sora remains in "research preview" and participation is voluntary, with the company working on balancing creativity with safety measures. The leak reveals Sora has faced technical challenges, including processing time issues and consistency problems, while OpenAI has also lost ground to competitors in securing entertainment industry partnerships.

Ai2 releases new language models competitive with Meta’s Llama

Ai2, the nonprofit AI research organization, has released OLMo 2, a new family of open-source language models that meets the Open Source Initiative's definition of open-source AI. The family includes 7B and 13B parameter models trained on 5 trillion tokens of high-quality data, including websites, academic papers, and math workbooks. Ai2 claims these models outperform Meta's Llama 3.1 and represent the best fully open language models available. While there are concerns about the potential misuse of open models, Ai2 believes the benefits of transparency and equitable access outweigh the risks. The models are available under an Apache 2.0 license for commercial use.
