OpenAI partners with Cerebras for $10 billion compute deal

OpenAI signs deal, worth $10B, for compute from Cerebras

OpenAI has inked a massive multi-year partnership with AI chipmaker Cerebras in a deal worth over $10 billion, marking one of the largest compute agreements in the AI industry. The arrangement will see Cerebras deliver 750 megawatts of computing power to OpenAI from 2025 through 2028, significantly bolstering the ChatGPT maker's infrastructure capabilities.

The partnership centers on delivering faster AI responses to OpenAI's millions of users. According to both companies, Cerebras' specialized systems will accelerate processing for AI tasks that currently require substantial computing time, enabling more immediate and natural interactions with AI models.

"OpenAI's compute strategy is to build a resilient portfolio that matches the right systems to the right workloads," explained Sachin Katti from OpenAI. The collaboration adds dedicated low-latency inference capabilities to OpenAI's platform, promising quicker responses and laying groundwork for scaling real-time AI to broader audiences.

Cerebras CEO and co-founder Andrew Feldman drew parallels to past technological transformations, stating that "just as broadband transformed the internet, real-time inference will transform AI." This vision aligns with the industry's push toward instantaneous AI interactions that feel more conversational and responsive.

Founded over a decade ago, Cerebras has experienced meteoric growth since ChatGPT's 2022 launch sparked the current AI boom. The company differentiates itself by claiming its purpose-built AI chips outperform traditional GPU-based systems, including offerings from industry giant Nvidia. This specialized approach has positioned Cerebras as a compelling alternative in the increasingly competitive AI hardware space.

The timing of this announcement coincides with Cerebras' continued fundraising efforts. Reports emerged Tuesday that the company is pursuing another $1 billion funding round at a $22 billion valuation, demonstrating strong investor confidence in its technology and market position.

Interestingly, the partnership involves existing connections between the companies. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman previously invested in Cerebras, and OpenAI reportedly once considered acquiring the chipmaker entirely. These prior relationships likely facilitated negotiations for this substantial agreement.

Cerebras initially filed for an IPO in 2024 but has repeatedly delayed the public offering, choosing instead to focus on private funding and major partnerships like this OpenAI deal. The company's decision to remain private while securing billion-dollar contracts suggests confidence in its current trajectory and market opportunities.

For OpenAI, this partnership represents strategic diversification of its compute infrastructure. Rather than relying solely on traditional providers, the company is building a varied portfolio of specialized systems optimized for different AI workloads. This approach could provide competitive advantages in speed, efficiency, and cost management as AI demands continue growing exponentially.

The deal's $10 billion scale underscores the massive capital requirements driving modern AI development. As companies race to deliver faster, more capable AI systems, securing adequate computing power has become a critical competitive factor, making partnerships like this increasingly valuable for maintaining technological leadership in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Dictate prompts and tag files automatically

Stop typing reproductions and start vibing code. Wispr Flow captures your spoken debugging flow and turns it into structured bug reports, acceptance tests, and PR descriptions. Say a file name or variable out loud and Flow preserves it exactly, tags the correct file, and keeps inline code readable. Use voice to create Cursor and Warp prompts, call out a variable like user_id, and get copy you can paste straight into an issue or PR. The result is faster triage and fewer context gaps between engineers and QA. Learn how developers use voice-first workflows in our Vibe Coding article at wisprflow.ai. Try Wispr Flow for engineers.

Skild AI triples valuation to $14B in seven months

Robotics software maker Skild AI hits $14B valuation

Robotics foundation model developer Skild AI has raised $1.4 billion in Series C funding, achieving a $14 billion valuation — more than tripling from $4.5 billion just seven months ago. SoftBank led the round, with participation from Nvidia and others.

Founded in 2023, Skild AI creates general-purpose robotic software that can adapt to various robots and tasks without extensive retraining. The company has now raised over $2 billion total, addressing the critical challenge of robot training requirements that currently limits widespread robotic adoption in personal and industrial applications.

VoiceRun nabs $5.5M to build a voice agent factory

VoiceRun raises $5.5M to revolutionize AI voice agent development platform.

Nicholas Leonard and Derek Caneja launched VoiceRun after recognizing critical flaws in existing AI voice agent development. While no-code tools enabled rapid deployment, they often produced low-quality results. Meanwhile, specialized tools required months of development time and significant resources, leaving developers without viable alternatives.

VoiceRun differentiates itself by allowing developers to code voice agent behavior directly, rather than relying on visual diagrams and conversation flows common in low-code platforms. This approach provides greater flexibility and addresses limitations found in visual interfaces, such as difficulty implementing custom dialects or specialized features that weren't pre-built into the platform.

"Code is the native language of coding agents," explained Leonard, the company's CEO. "They are going to do a far better job operating in code than in a visual interface." The platform also includes A/B testing capabilities and one-click deployment functionality.

The company targets enterprise developers, helping businesses integrate AI into customer service operations and enabling tech companies to launch voice-based products. Current clients include a restaurant-tech company developing an AI phone concierge for food reservations.

VoiceRun announced closing a $5.5 million seed round led by Flybridge Capital. The company positions itself between no-code builders like Bland and Retell AI, which focus on quick demos, and sophisticated tools like LiveKit and Pipecat that offer maximum developer control.

Leonard aims to change consumer perceptions of automated voices, noting that a Five9 survey showed three-fourths of respondents still prefer human customer service representatives. He believes better voice agents can overcome limitations like language barriers and judgment that human agents sometimes present.

"There are great voice agents today, but they won't be ubiquitous until the voice agent factory is built," Leonard said. "VoiceRun is that factory."
