Google launches Gemini app for iOS worldwide
Google has released its dedicated Gemini AI assistant app for iOS users worldwide, marking a significant expansion of its AI ecosystem. This launch follows the successful rollout of the Android version earlier this year and introduces several new features for Apple device users.
Features and Language Support
The new iOS app supports text-based interactions in 35 languages and introduces Gemini Live, enabling voice conversations in 12 major languages including English, Spanish, French, and Hindi. The app integrates with Google's Imagen 3 model for image generation, recently reinstated for Gemini Advanced, Business, and Enterprise users.
Strategic Integration and Competition
Google's iOS launch coincides with Apple's development of ChatGPT integration for Siri in iOS 18.2, currently in public beta. This timing is particularly significant given Apple's announced plans to integrate Google Gemini with Apple Intelligence, as confirmed by Apple SVP Craig Federighi.
Users can leverage extensions to access information across various Google services, including Gmail, Maps, YouTube, and Calendar, creating a comprehensive AI assistant experience. The app builds upon features previously available through Google's main app and mobile web interface, while adding new capabilities like Gemini Live.
The global rollout follows a phased deployment strategy, with Google gradually expanding language support and regional availability. The company began with U.S. markets before extending to European countries and later to South Asian markets, where it now supports nine local languages.
This expansion represents Google's commitment to making AI technology more accessible across platforms and regions, while positioning itself strategically in the competitive AI assistant market. The integration possibilities with Apple's ecosystem suggest potential future collaborations between the tech giants in the AI space.
The move signifies Google's broader strategy to establish Gemini as a universal AI assistant, accessible across all major mobile platforms and integrated with users' daily digital activities. As AI assistants become increasingly central to mobile user experience, this launch strengthens Google's position in the evolving AI landscape.
ChatGPT can now read some of your Mac’s desktop apps
OpenAI has updated ChatGPT's desktop app for macOS to interact with several coding applications, including VS Code, Xcode, TextEdit, Terminal, and iTerm2. The new "Work with Apps" feature allows ChatGPT to read code directly from these applications, eliminating the need for copy-pasting. Currently available for Plus and Teams users (with Enterprise and Edu access coming soon), the feature relies on macOS's accessibility API and can process up to 200 lines of code. While users still need to paste ChatGPT's responses back into their coding environments manually, OpenAI sees this as a stepping stone toward more advanced AI agent capabilities.
Musk’s amended lawsuit against OpenAI names Microsoft as a defendant
Elon Musk has amended his lawsuit against OpenAI to include Microsoft, Reid Hoffman, and former OpenAI board member Dee Templeton as defendants. The updated complaint adds Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis and Musk's xAI as plaintiffs, arguing that OpenAI is trying to eliminate competitors like xAI by discouraging investors and unfairly benefiting from Microsoft's resources. The lawsuit reveals that OpenAI considered launching a cryptocurrency in 2018, which Musk opposed. The core argument remains that OpenAI abandoned its nonprofit mission to become a Microsoft subsidiary, though OpenAI dismisses the claims as baseless.

⬆️ ️ Trends: How Businesses Implement AI
TikTok Launches AI-Powered Video Creation Tools for Business Users
TikTok has unveiled new AI-powered video creation capabilities within its Symphony Creative Studio, designed to help marketers create platform-optimized content with minimal effort. The system can generate TikTok-style video clips from product descriptions or URLs, automatically incorporating images and formatting content to match popular platform trends.
The new tool offers several key features:
Automatic video generation from product URLs or descriptions
Integration with licensed assets from partners like Billo and Getty Images
Digital avatar narration options
Multi-language content creation capabilities
Customizable outputs before publication
Unlike other platforms' broader AI experiments, TikTok has taken a focused approach, developing practical tools specifically for marketing needs. The system draws inspiration from top-performing TikTok content to ensure that generated videos align with platform trends and viewing preferences.
This addition complements TikTok's existing AI marketing toolkit, which includes script generation, creative prompts, and image creation features. For brands hesitant to enter TikTok due to video creation challenges, this tool could lower the barrier to entry significantly.
TikTok's cautious, practical approach to AI implementation—focusing on specific business applications rather than general-purpose chatbots—may prove more valuable for marketers. If successful, these tools could accelerate brand adoption of TikTok's platform while maintaining content quality and engagement.
