Microsoft has announced a landmark investment of 14.7 billion Reais (approximately $3 billion USD) in Brazil over the next three years, marking its largest single investment in the country during its 35-year presence. This initiative, part of the "Microsoft Mais Brazil" plan launched in 2020, focuses on expanding cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure while simultaneously launching a massive AI skills training program.
The investment will primarily be used to expand Microsoft's cloud and AI infrastructure across several data center campuses in São Paulo state. This expansion complements Microsoft's existing Azure regions in Brazil South (São Paulo) and Brazil Southeast (Rio de Janeiro).
A key component of this initiative is the ConectAI program, which aims to provide AI skills training to 5 million Brazilians over three years. The potential impact of this investment is significant. A study commissioned by Microsoft suggests that strong AI adoption in Brazil could add 4.2 percentage points to the country's GDP growth through 2030. Even with minimal adoption, the increase could be 1.8 percentage points.
Microsoft's commitment extends beyond infrastructure and training. The company is also investing in the Brazilian AI ecosystem, supporting developers and startups. Brazil currently boasts the sixth-largest developer community contributing to generative AI projects globally, with projections suggesting it could become the third-largest developer population by 2028.
Sustainability is a core focus of this initiative. Microsoft has committed to becoming carbon negative, water positive, and zero waste by 2030. The company has already contracted over 34 GW of renewable energy across 24 countries and is pursuing carbon removal projects in Brazil, including reforestation efforts in the Amazon.

Users can filter for renovation opportunities or exclude them to focus on move-in ready homes. Backed by Google's AI-focused venture fund, Jitty aims to make it easier for buyers to discover fixer-uppers or avoid them, based on their preferences.
