OpenAI plans AI-powered job platform by 2026, challenging LinkedIn directly.
OpenAI announces AI-powered hiring platform to take on LinkedIn

OpenAI is venturing into the competitive job market with its upcoming AI-powered hiring platform, setting up a potential clash with LinkedIn and other established players in the recruitment space.
The OpenAI Jobs Platform, expected to launch by mid-2026, aims to leverage artificial intelligence to create optimal matches between employers and job seekers. OpenAI CEO of Applications Fidji Simo announced the initiative, emphasizing the platform's ability to connect what companies need with what workers can offer.
The platform will feature a dedicated track specifically designed for small businesses and local governments seeking top AI talent, addressing a growing demand in the market as organizations increasingly recognize the need for AI expertise.
This expansion represents OpenAI's broader strategy to diversify beyond ChatGPT, its flagship consumer product. CEO Sam Altman recently indicated that Simo would oversee multiple applications beyond the popular chatbot, including the jobs platform and potentially other rumored projects like a web browser and social media application.
The move creates an interesting competitive dynamic, as OpenAI's hiring platform will directly challenge LinkedIn, co-founded by Reid Hoffman, one of OpenAI's earliest investors. Adding another layer of complexity, LinkedIn is owned by Microsoft, OpenAI's largest financial backer. LinkedIn has already begun integrating AI features into its platform to enhance job matching capabilities.
Complementing the jobs platform, OpenAI plans to introduce certification programs through its OpenAI Academy, an online educational initiative launched last year. These certifications will assess different levels of "AI fluency," with a pilot program scheduled for late 2025. The company has partnered with Walmart, one of America's largest private employers, to develop this certification system.
OpenAI has set an ambitious goal of certifying 10 million Americans by 2030, positioning itself as a major player in AI education and workforce development.
The timing of this announcement comes amid growing concerns about AI's impact on employment. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has predicted that AI could eliminate up to 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs before 2030. Simo acknowledged these concerns in her announcement, stating that while OpenAI cannot prevent job market disruption caused by AI advancement, the company can help mitigate its impact.
Simo emphasized that OpenAI's approach focuses on empowering workers by helping them develop AI literacy and connecting them with companies that value these emerging skills. This strategy positions the company as both a disruptor and a solution provider in the evolving job market.
The initiative aligns with OpenAI's commitment to the White House's AI literacy expansion program. The announcement coincided with a high-profile meeting between major tech executives, including Altman, and President Donald Trump to discuss artificial intelligence policy and development.
OpenAI's entry into the job market represents a significant expansion of its business model, moving from primarily serving consumers and businesses with AI tools to actively shaping how the workforce adapts to AI integration. The platform could potentially transform how companies recruit AI talent and how workers demonstrate their AI capabilities.
The success of this venture will depend on OpenAI's ability to differentiate its platform from established competitors like LinkedIn, Indeed, and other job sites that are also incorporating AI features. The company's deep AI expertise and growing brand recognition could provide advantages, but it will need to build trust with both employers and job seekers in a crowded marketplace.
As AI continues to reshape industries and job requirements, OpenAI's dual approach of certification and job matching could position it as a central player in the future workforce ecosystem, provided it can navigate the complex competitive and partnership dynamics with its investors and rivals.

Deliverr founder's AI logistics startup Augment raises $85M Series A.
AI logistics startup Augment, from Deliverr’s founder, raises massive $85M Series A

Harish Abbott, who sold e-commerce startup Deliverr to Shopify for $2.1 billion, has launched Augment with AI assistant "Augie" to automate logistics tasks. The company just raised $85 million Series A funding, five months after a $25 million seed round. Augie handles seven key logistics processes including pricing bids, package tracking, and load building across multiple communication channels. Customers like Armstrong Transport Group report 40% reduction in invoice delays. Despite competition from Vooma, FleetWorks, and shipping giants investing in AI, Abbott remains confident in Augie's human-like reasoning capabilities and growing adoption rates.

DuckDuckGo adds access to advanced AI models to its subscription plan

DuckDuckGo adds premium AI models to its subscription service.
Privacy-focused consumer tech company DuckDuckGo has expanded its $9.99 monthly subscription service to include access to premium AI models through its Duck.ai platform. The company, which launched its subscription plan last year bundling VPN service, personal information removal, and identity theft restoration, announced Thursday that subscribers now gain access to cutting-edge AI models without additional fees.
The Duck.ai chatbot remains free for basic use, offering models like Anthropic's Claude 3.5 Haiku, Meta's Llama 4 Scout, Mistral AI's Mistral Small 3 24B, and OpenAI's GPT-4o mini. However, subscribers unlock access to significantly more powerful models, including OpenAI's GPT-4o and the upcoming GPT-5, Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 4, and Meta's Llama Maverick.
According to DuckDuckGo, these premium models excel at following detailed instructions, maintaining context throughout extended conversations, and delivering deeper, more nuanced responses. The company emphasizes that its subscription offers a unique advantage by providing access to these advanced models while maintaining stronger privacy protections compared to other providers.
This development positions DuckDuckGo as an attractive option for users seeking access to multiple AI models from different providers without committing to a single platform. The service competes with alternatives like Quora's Poe, which offers similar multi-model access starting at $5 per month, though at a lower price point.
DuckDuckGo has indicated plans to introduce additional, more expensive subscription tiers that will feature even larger and more advanced AI models. However, the company has not yet disclosed whether the current plan includes usage limitations or specified pricing for these future premium offerings.
The integration of AI capabilities into DuckDuckGo's existing privacy-focused subscription service reflects the company's strategy to differentiate itself in an increasingly crowded AI market by emphasizing user privacy while providing access to state-of-the-art language models from multiple leading AI companies.
