Meta launches Muse Code, an AI agent for large code bases

Meta has taken a significant step in the competitive AI coding space with the launch of Muse Code, a new terminal-based coding agent currently available in beta. The tool is designed to help developers tackle complex engineering tasks across large software repositories, placing Meta more squarely in competition with AI peers like OpenAI and Anthropic.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the release on social media, stating that Muse Code can handle "complete software engineering tasks across large repos," covering everything from planning changes and writing code to validating results. The agent can be installed with a single command, lowering the barrier to entry for developers who want to get started quickly.

Under the hood, Muse Code is powered by Meta's previously released coding model, Muse Spark. One of its standout features is its ability to tackle large-scale projects by spinning up multiple sub-agents that work in parallel. Zuckerberg explained the approach: "When a job is big enough, it fans out to separate sub-agents working in parallel in isolated worktrees. Your working copy is never touched." He noted that during testing, the system was able to build six game features simultaneously without any conflicts.

The launch is a deliberate move to close the gap with rivals already established in the AI coding agent market. OpenAI offers its own coding agent called Codex, while Anthropic has Claude Code. Meta's entry into this space signals its intent to compete not just on capability, but also on cost. Alexandr Wang, Meta's AI chief and head of Meta Superintelligence Labs, told the Wall Street Journal that the tool could be "an incredibly good option, especially from a cost perspective" for many workflows and use cases.

This release is part of a broader push by Meta to expand its AI footprint beyond its core advertising business. In June, the company made its first move into enterprise AI with an agent focused on customer service and support. With Muse Code now in the mix, Meta is clearly accelerating its ambitions across multiple AI fronts, backed by significant investment in research and development.

Omilia raises $67M to scale its customer support platform

Athens-based Omilia, a company that has been automating voice calls and customer support since 2002, has raised a $67 million Series B led by Expedition Growth Capital. The funding follows the company's only previous raise — a $20 million round from Grafton Capital in 2020 — and comes as Omilia reports a 10x increase in annual recurring revenue, now sitting at $60 million.

CEO Dimitris Vassos argues that competitors like Sierra and Decagon, which lean heavily on generative AI, are limiting themselves by deploying large language models for tasks that don't require them. Omilia's approach instead combines multiple tools — including traditional automation alongside newer AI methods — to match the right technology to each type of customer query. "You may have a bazooka, but if your enemy is near you, you need a knife," Vassos said, describing the reality of modern contact centers.

The company's self-learning agents now serve clients including Capital One, Discover, RBC, DWP, and PSEG. Quick-service restaurants have also emerged as a growing segment, with Taco Bell deploying Omilia's voice-ordering technology across more than 1,000 outlets. Vassos noted that two additional U.S. restaurant chains are in talks with the company. He also disputed a widely reported incident in which a customer allegedly ordered 18,000 cups of water through Taco Bell's AI ordering system, stating that Omilia's logs showed no such event occurred.

Omilia plans to use the new capital to open a U.S. office, expand its go-to-market team, and hire a chief revenue officer, chief marketing officer, and VP of revenue operations. The company currently employs around 500 people and expects to reach 600 by year's end. Vassos is focused on sustainable growth over hype, stating his ambition to build a billion-dollar revenue business within three years.
