Good morning ☀️, leader of the next generation.
I believe this: Technology, when used with intention, doesn’t distract us — it awakens us.
It shows us who we are. What we can build. How far we can go.
It strips away the noise and gives us tools that let our natural genius come through.
That we stop waiting for the world to hand us permission — and we start using the tools already in our hands to create, to express, to become.
This is not about keeping up.
It’s about breaking through.

Meta introduces parental controls for teen AI interactions
Meta previews new parental controls for its AI experiences

Meta has unveiled new parental oversight features designed to give parents greater control over how teenagers interact with artificial intelligence characters across its platforms. The comprehensive suite of tools, set to launch next year, represents the social media giant's latest effort to address growing concerns about AI safety for young users.
Beginning in early 2025, parents will gain the ability to completely disable their teen's access to AI character conversations. This broad control option will block interactions with all AI personalities while preserving access to Meta AI, the company's general-purpose chatbot that's programmed to provide only age-appropriate responses and content.
For parents seeking more nuanced oversight, Meta will offer granular controls allowing them to block specific AI characters individually rather than implementing a blanket ban. Additionally, parents will receive detailed insights into the conversation topics their teenagers are exploring with both AI characters and the main Meta AI assistant.
The initial rollout will focus on Instagram, with features becoming available in English across four key markets: the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. The timing reflects Meta's strategic approach to testing new safety measures in core English-speaking regions before broader international expansion.
"We recognize parents already have a lot on their plates when it comes to navigating the internet safely with their teens," wrote Instagram head Adam Mosseri and newly appointed Meta AI head Alexandr Wang in a joint statement. "We're committed to providing them with helpful tools and resources that make things simpler for them, especially as they think about new technology like AI."
These announcements build upon Meta's recently established content standards for teenage users. The company has implemented a PG-13 rating system for all AI experiences targeted at teens, automatically filtering out sensitive material including extreme violence, explicit nudity, and graphic depictions of drug use. This rating framework mirrors Hollywood's established movie classification system, providing parents with familiar reference points for understanding content appropriateness.
Currently, teenagers can only engage with a carefully curated selection of AI characters, all of which must comply with strict age-appropriate content guidelines. Parents already have access to time-limiting features that restrict how long teens can spend interacting with these AI characters, giving them tools to manage screen time and digital engagement.
Meta's enhanced safety measures extend beyond AI interactions to include sophisticated age verification systems. Earlier this year, Instagram deployed artificial intelligence technology specifically designed to identify users attempting to circumvent age restrictions by providing false birth dates during account creation.
The timing of these announcements coincides with industry-wide initiatives focused on protecting young users online. Recent weeks have seen major technology companies including OpenAI, Meta, and YouTube releasing various tools and safety controls specifically designed to address teenage digital wellbeing concerns.
These developments come against a backdrop of mounting scrutiny regarding social media's impact on adolescent mental health. Technology companies face increasing pressure from lawmakers, advocacy groups, and parents demanding stronger protections for young users. Several high-profile lawsuits have emerged alleging that AI systems contributed to teenage suicides, intensifying calls for more robust safety measures and parental oversight capabilities.
The new parental controls represent Meta's proactive response to these concerns while balancing innovation in AI technology with responsible deployment. As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into social media experiences, these safety features may set industry standards for how tech companies approach AI interactions with minors.

Silicon Valley leaders attack AI safety advocates as critics
Silicon Valley spooks the AI safety advocates

White House AI Czar David Sacks and OpenAI's Jason Kwon sparked controversy by questioning AI safety advocates' motives, alleging they serve hidden interests rather than public good.
OpenAI sent subpoenas to seven nonprofits criticizing the company, while Sacks accused Anthropic of fearmongering for regulatory advantage. AI safety groups claim this represents Silicon Valley's intimidation tactics against critics.
The tensions highlight growing conflicts between rapid AI development and responsible safety measures, as the AI safety movement gains momentum heading into 2026.

Reddit expands its AI-powered search to 5 new languages

Reddit brings AI search to French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese markets.
Reddit announced Thursday a significant expansion of its AI-powered search capabilities, introducing support for five new languages: French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. This multilingual rollout makes the feature accessible to users across major markets including Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Italy.
The enhanced search experience allows users who have set one of these languages as their default to interact with the AI through a conversational question-and-answer format, moving beyond traditional English-only support. The feature leverages Google's AI model to deliver responses and is integrated into Reddit Answers, which operates alongside the platform's conventional search functionality.
Reddit initially launched its AI-powered search feature last year and has been steadily expanding its capabilities. The timing of this international expansion comes as CEO Steve Huffman revealed impressive user engagement statistics during the company's quarterly earnings call in August. According to Huffman, Reddit's overall search function attracts more than 70 million weekly users, while the newer Reddit Answers feature has garnered more than 6 million users.
This expansion reflects a broader industry trend toward conversational search interfaces. The popularity of question-and-answer style search has surged since ChatGPT integrated web search capabilities, prompting established search engines like Google and Brave to introduce similar features aimed at improving user engagement and retention.
The competitive landscape has also seen emerging players like Perplexity gain significant traction with their chat-based search interfaces. Reddit's move to expand internationally positions the platform to compete more effectively in the evolving search market while serving its diverse global user base in their native languages. Huffman has indicated plans to further unify the search experience across Reddit's platform in future updates.
