Iran warns of strikes on AI infrastructure amid escalating tensions

Iran threatens 'Stargate' AI data centers

Iran has escalated tensions in the Middle East by issuing direct threats against artificial intelligence infrastructure, specifically targeting the ambitious Stargate data center project in the United Arab Emirates.

In a video statement released last weekend, Iranian military spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari announced that his country would retaliate against U.S. energy and technology infrastructure in the region if America proceeds with threatened strikes on Iranian civilian facilities. The warning represents a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict that has disrupted global supply chains since February.

The Iranian military's video message contained particularly ominous imagery, showing a globe that zoomed in on the Stargate facility in the UAE, accompanied by the threatening message: "nothing stays hidden to our sight, though hidden by Google." This direct reference suggests Iran has been conducting detailed surveillance of critical AI infrastructure across the region.

Stargate represents one of the most ambitious technology projects of recent years—a $500 billion joint venture between OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle announced in January 2025. The initiative aims to construct massive AI data centers capable of supporting next-generation artificial intelligence applications. However, the project has faced significant challenges since its inception, including funding difficulties and increased costs related to international trade tariffs.

The current crisis stems from Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping channel that handles a substantial portion of global maritime trade. This strategic chokepoint has become a focal point of the broader conflict, with its closure severely impacting international supply chains and energy markets.

President Trump has issued an ultimatum demanding Iran reopen the strait by Tuesday's end, threatening to target Iranian civilian infrastructure including power plants and water desalination facilities if compliance is not achieved. These threats have prompted Iran's counter-threats against American technological and energy assets in the Middle East.

The region's technology infrastructure has already suffered significant damage from the ongoing hostilities. Iranian missile strikes have successfully hit Amazon Web Services data centers in Bahrain and an Oracle facility in Dubai, demonstrating both the capability and willingness to target critical digital infrastructure.

Beyond infrastructure attacks, Iran has also issued specific threats against major technology corporations. Last week, the country named Nvidia and Apple as potential targets, suggesting a coordinated campaign against Western technology companies operating in or serving the Middle East region.

These developments highlight the vulnerability of modern digital infrastructure in conflict zones and raise serious questions about the security of AI and cloud computing facilities in geopolitically sensitive regions. The targeting of Stargate, in particular, underscores how artificial intelligence infrastructure has become a strategic asset worthy of military consideration.

The situation has created uncertainty for international technology investments in the Middle East, with companies now forced to reassess the risks associated with operating critical infrastructure in the region. The Stargate project's international expansion plans may face additional scrutiny as security concerns mount.

As tensions continue to escalate, the conflict has evolved beyond traditional military targets to encompass the digital backbone of modern society, marking a new phase in contemporary warfare where AI infrastructure and data centers have become legitimate military objectives in the eyes of combatants.

AI startup Rocket offers vibe McKinsey-style reports at a fraction of the cost

Indian startup creates AI platform generating consulting-style product strategy reports.

Indian startup Rocket has launched an AI-powered platform that tackles a critical gap in the current tech landscape: helping businesses decide what to build rather than just how to build it. While AI coding tools have made programming accessible to everyone, the company argues that strategic planning remains the missing piece.

Based in Surat, India, Rocket unveiled its platform Rocket 1.0 on Tuesday, combining research, product development, and competitive intelligence into a unified workflow. The platform generates comprehensive product strategy documents that include pricing models, unit economics, and go-to-market recommendations in consulting-style PDF reports.

"Everyone can generate the code now… it has become a commodity. But what to build is something which everyone is missing," explained co-founder and CEO Vishal Virani. He emphasized that running a successful business requires more than just building code.

TechCrunch's testing revealed that while Rocket produces detailed strategy documents from simple prompts, much of the analysis appears synthesized from existing data rather than independently verified information. This means users should validate outputs before making critical business decisions, though Rocket offers human support when needed.

The platform draws from over 1,000 data sources, including Meta's ad libraries and Similarweb's API, to track competitors and analyze market trends. Rocket's subscription plans range from $25 monthly for basic application building to $350 for the complete platform with competitive intelligence features.

The $250 tier promises two to three "McKinsey-grade" research reports, positioning itself as a cost-effective alternative to traditional consulting that typically costs thousands of dollars. Following a $15 million seed round from Accel, Salesforce Ventures, and Together Fund, Rocket has grown to over 1.5 million users across 180 countries, with reported annual revenue per user around $4,000 and gross margins exceeding 50%.
