Good morning ☀️, leader of the next generation.

I believe this: Technology, when used with intention, doesn’t distract us — it awakens us.

It shows us who we are. What we can build. How far we can go. It strips away the noise and gives us tools that let our natural genius come through.

That we stop waiting for the world to hand us permission — and we start using the tools already in our hands to create, to express, to become.

This is not about keeping up. It’s about breaking through.

GM plans Level 3 autonomous driving debut in 2028 Cadillac

GM to introduce eyes-off, hands-off driving system in 2028

General Motors has announced plans to launch a revolutionary automated driving system in 2028 that will allow drivers to take their eyes off the road and hands off the wheel, debuting first in the Cadillac Escalade IQ. The announcement was made Wednesday at GM's Forward event in New York City.

This breakthrough system builds upon GM's existing Super Cruise technology, the hands-off advanced driver assistance system that launched in 2017. Super Cruise is currently available across 23 vehicle models and operates on approximately 600,000 miles of highway infrastructure.

The new eyes-off, hands-off system will utilize a sophisticated combination of lidar, radar, and camera sensors for environmental perception, initially focusing on highway deployment. GM CEO Mary Barra indicated the company plans to roll out this advanced system more rapidly than it did with the original Super Cruise technology.

GM is leveraging expertise from engineers who previously worked at Cruise, its now-defunct autonomous vehicle subsidiary. When GM shuttered Cruise's commercial robotaxi operations in December 2024, the company absorbed the subsidiary and integrated its capabilities into GM's driver assistance development efforts. Over the past year, GM has strategically rehired several former Cruise engineers to support its autonomous vehicle ambitions.

The automaker is incorporating Cruise's extensive technology stack, which includes AI models trained on over five million driverless miles and comprehensive simulation frameworks for virtual testing scenarios, into its next-generation driver assistance and autonomy programs.

Sterling Anderson, GM's executive vice president of global product and former Aurora Innovation co-founder, explained the strategic shift from robotaxis to personal autonomous vehicles. "We're now in a position in 2025 where the industry broadly has brought down the cost tremendously of some of the hardware," Anderson noted, emphasizing GM's unique advantages in manufacturing capacity and scale.

Currently, Mercedes is the only automaker offering a commercially available hands-off, eyes-off system in the United States. Mercedes' Drive Pilot operates under SAE Level 3 automation standards but is limited to mapped highways in California and Nevada, functioning only in heavy, low-speed traffic conditions.

GM's system promises greater flexibility, working on unmapped highways according to Baris Cetinok, GM's senior vice president of software and services. The system will require human intervention primarily for off-ramps while autonomously handling emergencies and sudden incidents. "Human intervention should not be the escape hatch for sudden incidents," Cetinok emphasized.

This development could position GM ahead of most competitors in the autonomous driving race. While Stellantis unveiled its own Level 3 system earlier this year, the launch has been postponed. Tesla continues pursuing full self-driving capabilities using camera-only systems and neural networks, though its Autopilot and FSD features still require constant driver attention.

The 2028 launch timeline represents a significant milestone in automotive automation, potentially making GM one of the first major automakers to offer true Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities to consumers at scale, marking a crucial step toward fully autonomous personal vehicles.

This Technology Makes Every City a Potential Surf Destination

Topgolf revolutionized golf by turning it into a social, tech-driven game for anyone. And they’ve made billions in annual revenue doing it. Surf Lakes is applying that same model to surfing. Their patented tech creates 2,000 ocean-quality rides per hour, anywhere in the world, across all skill levels.

Surf tourism is a $65B global industry, yet fewer than 1% of people live near real waves. Licenses sold across the U.S. and Australia, with plans for a first commercial park in the works.

3x world champ Tom Curren and surf icon Mark Occhilupo have joined as ambassadors and shareholders. Even actor Chris Hemsworth has praised Surf Lakes.

You have until October 30th at 11:59 PM PT to invest in Surf Lakes.

Netflix goes 'all in' on generative AI as entertainment industry remains divided

Netflix embraces generative AI tools while industry debates technology's impact.

Netflix is fully embracing generative AI technology as the entertainment industry continues to grapple with its potential applications in filmmaking. In its latest quarterly earnings report, the streaming giant expressed confidence in leveraging AI advances to enhance content creation.

Rather than using AI as the foundation of its content, Netflix views the technology as a powerful tool to boost creative efficiency. CEO Ted Sarandos emphasized that great artistry remains essential, stating that "AI can give creatives better tools to enhance their overall TV/movie experience for our members, but it doesn't automatically make you a great storyteller if you're not."

The company has already implemented AI in several productions. Netflix first used generative AI in final footage for the Argentine series "The Eternaut" to create a building collapse scene. Filmmakers working on "Happy Gilmore 2" utilized the technology to make characters appear younger, while "Billionaires' Bunker" producers employed AI for pre-production visualization of wardrobe and set designs.

Sarandos expressed optimism about AI's potential, saying the company is confident the technology will help tell stories "better, faster, and in new ways." However, he stressed they're not pursuing innovation merely for novelty's sake.

The entertainment industry remains divided on AI usage, with artists concerned about LLM tools trained on their work without consent potentially threatening their livelihoods. Recent tensions escalated when OpenAI released its Sora 2 model without sufficient guardrails against deepfaking actors, prompting SAG-AFTRA and actor Bryan Cranston to demand stronger protections.

When questioned about Sora's impact, Sarandos acknowledged potential effects on content creators but expressed less concern for the movie and TV business. "We're not worried about AI replacing creativity," he stated confidently.

Netflix's quarterly revenue grew 17% year-over-year to $11.5 billion, though this figure fell short of company forecasts, highlighting the ongoing challenges in the competitive streaming landscape.
