Anthropic requires Claude users to choose data training preferences by September.
Anthropic users face a new choice – opt out or share your chats for AI training

Anthropic is implementing major changes to its data handling policies, requiring all Claude users to decide by September 28 whether their conversations can be used for AI training purposes. This represents a significant shift from the company's previous approach to user data.
Previously, Anthropic didn't use consumer chat data for model training and automatically deleted user prompts and conversation outputs within 30 days. Now, the company wants to train its AI systems on user conversations and coding sessions, extending data retention to five years for users who don't opt out.
The new policies affect Claude Free, Pro, and Max users, including those using Claude Code. However, business customers using Claude Gov, Claude for Work, Claude for Education, or API access remain unaffected – similar to how OpenAI protects its enterprise customers from data training policies.
Anthropically frames these changes around user choice and improvement, stating that users who don't opt out will "help improve model safety" and make systems better at "detecting harmful content." The company also claims this will help future Claude models improve at "coding, analysis, and reasoning, ultimately leading to better models for all users."
However, the reality likely involves more practical considerations. Like other large language model companies, Anthropic desperately needs high-quality conversational data to remain competitive. Training AI models requires vast amounts of real-world content, and accessing millions of Claude interactions provides exactly the kind of data needed to compete against rivals like OpenAI and Google.
These changes also reflect broader industry shifts in data policies amid increasing legal scrutiny. OpenAI currently faces a court order requiring it to retain all consumer ChatGPT conversations indefinitely, including deleted chats, due to a lawsuit filed by The New York Times and other publishers. OpenAI's COO called this "a sweeping and unnecessary demand" that "fundamentally conflicts with the privacy commitments we have made to our users."
What's particularly concerning is the confusion these changing policies create for users, many of whom remain unaware of the modifications. The rapid pace of technological development means privacy policies are constantly evolving, but many sweeping changes receive minimal attention in company communications.
The implementation design raises additional red flags. New users choose their preferences during signup, but existing users encounter a pop-up with "Updates to Consumer Terms and Policies" featuring a prominent black "Accept" button and a much smaller toggle switch for training permissions – automatically set to "On." This design practically guarantees users might quickly click "Accept" without noticing they're agreeing to data sharing.
Privacy experts have long warned that AI's complexity makes meaningful user consent nearly impossible to achieve. The Federal Trade Commission has even warned AI companies that they risk enforcement action for "surreptitiously changing terms of service or privacy policy, or burying disclosure behind hyperlinks, in legalese, or in fine print."
The stakes for user awareness couldn't be higher. Most users don't realize how significantly the guidelines they've agreed to have changed, largely due to deliberately confusing interface designs. Many ChatGPT users continue clicking "delete" toggles that aren't actually deleting anything, while Anthropic's new policy follows similarly problematic patterns.
Whether the FTC – now operating with only three of its five commissioners – still actively monitors these practices remains an open question. The commission's reduced capacity raises concerns about oversight effectiveness just when user protection is most critical.
These policy changes highlight the ongoing tension between AI companies' need for training data and user privacy rights. As the AI industry continues its rapid evolution, users must navigate increasingly complex privacy landscapes while companies prioritize competitive advantages over transparent communication. The September 28 deadline forces Claude users to make important decisions about their data, but the implementation suggests many may unknowingly consent to uses they never intended to authorize.
How 433 Investors Unlocked 400X Return Potential
Institutional investors back startups to unlock outsized returns. Regular investors have to wait. But not anymore. Thanks to regulatory updates, some companies are doing things differently.
Take Revolut. In 2016, 433 regular people invested an average of $2,730. Today? They got a 400X buyout offer from the company, as Revolut’s valuation increased 89,900% in the same timeframe.
Founded by a former Zillow exec, Pacaso’s co-ownership tech reshapes the $1.3T vacation home market. They’ve earned $110M+ in gross profit to date, including 41% YoY growth in 2024 alone. They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.
The same institutional investors behind Uber, Venmo, and eBay backed Pacaso. And you can join them. But not for long. Pacaso’s investment opportunity ends September 18.

Trump administration secures Intel stake, discourages foundry business spin-off.
Trump administration’s deal is structured to prevent Intel from selling foundry unit

The Trump administration has secured a 10% equity stake in Intel with terms that discourage spinning off the company's struggling foundry business. The deal includes a five-year warrant allowing the government an additional 5% stake if Intel reduces its foundry ownership below 51%. CFO David Zinsner revealed these details at a Deutsche Bank conference, noting Intel received $5.7 billion from CHIPS Act grants. This structure forces Intel to retain a unit that lost $3.1 billion in Q2, despite analyst calls to divest the unprofitable foundry business.

MathGPT.ai, the ‘cheat-proof’ tutor and teaching assistant, expands to over 50 institutions

MathGPT.ai expands anti-cheating AI tutoring platform to hundreds of colleges.
As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly common in educational settings, with students using it for assignments while teachers struggle to manage its impact, a new platform called MathGPT.ai has emerged as a potential solution. Launched last year, this AI tutoring system positions itself as an "anti-cheating" educational tool that serves both students and professors.
After completing successful pilot programs at 30 colleges and universities across the United States, MathGPT.ai is expanding significantly this fall. The platform will nearly double its availability, with hundreds of instructors at institutions including Penn State University, Tufts University, and Liberty University planning to integrate the tool into their curricula.
What distinguishes MathGPT.ai from other AI platforms is its unique approach to student interaction. The AI chatbot is specifically trained to never provide direct answers to mathematical problems. Instead, it employs Socratic questioning techniques, asking students probing questions and offering guidance similar to a human tutor. This methodology encourages critical thinking and deep understanding rather than simple memorization or answer-copying.
For educators, the platform functions as a comprehensive teaching assistant. It can generate customized questions and assignments based on uploaded textbooks and learning materials, provide automated grading capabilities, and offer various AI-powered educational features. The system supports college-level mathematics including Algebra, Calculus, and Trigonometry.
The platform's instructor-centric design gives professors substantial control over student usage. Educators can specify when students may access the chatbot, determine which assignments should include AI tutoring support, and set limits on answer attempts. To reduce academic pressure, the system offers unlimited practice questions that don't impact grades.
Recent updates have enhanced accessibility and functionality. The platform now integrates with major Learning Management Systems including Canvas, Blackboard, and Brightspace. It features screen reader compatibility, audio modes, and closed captions for its AI-narrated video lessons, which uniquely feature voices of historical figures like Ben Franklin and Albert Einstein.
Unlike general-purpose chatbots that have faced criticism for inappropriate interactions, MathGPT.ai maintains strict conversational boundaries focused solely on mathematical education. The company acknowledges potential AI inaccuracies but reports minimal errors through human verification processes.
Looking forward, MathGPT.ai plans mobile app development and expansion into subjects like chemistry, economics, and accounting, offering both free and premium pricing options.
