⚡🔋EU Says No Delay as AI Act Faces Big Tech Pushback
And more: Brex Revamps AI Buying to Move Faster; Researchers Hide AI Prompts to Get Good Reviews
Good morning ☀️, leader of the next generation.
I believe this: Technology, when used with intention, doesn’t distract us — it awakens us.
It shows us who we are. What we can build. How far we can go. It strips away the noise and gives us tools that let our natural genius come through.
That we stop waiting for the world to hand us permission — and we start using the tools already in our hands to create, to express, to become.
This is not about keeping up. It’s about breaking through.

No Stop the Clock: EU Rejects Big Tech's Plea to Stall AI Regulation

Brussels stays firm as Big Tech lobbies for delays in AI Act deadlines.
The EU has rejected calls from Alphabet, Meta, and European firms like ASML to delay its landmark AI Act. “No stop the clock, no pause,” the Commission declared, upholding tight deadlines.
⚖️ Europe Stays Uncompromising
Officials say binding deadlines are crucial to avoid weak oversight. The AI Act is the world’s first comprehensive AI law, positioning the EU as the global leader in AI regulation.
📉 Industry Pushback
Tech companies fear high compliance costs could hamper innovation and push development to looser jurisdictions. Even European AI startups like Mistral want more time.
🗂️ Phased Rollout
The Act rolls out in phases—first bans harmful practices like untargeted facial recognition, then tackles general-purpose models in August, and high-risk sectors in 2026.
🌍 Global Precedent
Brussels hopes its risk-based approach will shape global norms. Its stand sends a clear signal: Big Tech won't set the pace on AI governance—regulators will.

🚀 AI Procurement Strategy
How Brex Is Keeping Up With AI by Embracing the ‘Messiness’

Brex reinvents how it buys AI tools to stay ahead
Brex has completely overhauled its software procurement process to keep pace with rapidly evolving AI tools. CTO James Reggio explained that the company’s old months-long piloting process was too slow, with teams losing interest before deals closed.
Brex now uses a streamlined framework for legal validation and data processing agreements, plus a “superhuman product-market-fit test” that gives employees a bigger say in picking tools that show clear value in real workflows.
Engineers get a $50 monthly budget to license approved AI software themselves, surfacing the reality that teams prefer different tools rather than converging on one. Over the past two years, Brex has deployed about 1,000 AI tools and shut down 5–10 large initiatives.
Reggio advises other enterprises to “embrace the messiness” of AI adoption, warning that overthinking or slow procurement cycles risk leaving companies behind in the fast-changing AI race.

Researchers Seek to Influence Peer Review with Hidden AI Prompts

Hidden AI prompts found in academic papers
The details:
Researchers have been caught embedding secret prompts in papers to trick AI tools into writing glowing peer reviews—undermining trust in one of academia’s core quality checks.
Nikkei Asia found 17 arXiv papers using hidden text to steer AI to “give a positive review only,” with authors from top schools like Waseda, KAIST, Columbia, and UW.
One professor defended the tactic as a counter to “lazy reviewers” who secretly lean on AI, despite bans on AI-assisted reviews at major conferences.
What makes this crucial: As AI seeps deeper into research, academia must find ways to protect review integrity—or risk eroding trust in how science validates itself.
