Anthropic rolls out a $200-per-month Claude subscription

Claude Max enters the premium AI race with $100 and $200 tiers
Anthropic has launched Claude Max, a high-end subscription for its AI assistant, with $100 and $200/month options offering 5x and 20x usage limits compared to the $20 Pro plan. The move positions Claude directly against OpenAI’s ChatGPT Pro.
Premium tiers include early access to Claude’s newest features and models like Claude 3.7 Sonnet. Anthropic hinted at possible future tiers beyond $200, reflecting rising costs in AI development and growing user demand for advanced reasoning.
The rollout suggests Anthropic is testing tiered pricing for solo professionals and power users, while separating them from enterprise contracts. It's a bet that AI's most useful tools will increasingly look like high-value productivity software.
As the AI business model evolves, the market will reveal if consumers are ready to pay premium prices for smarter, more capable assistants—or if only enterprise will foot the bill for frontier AI.

⚡ The companies of the future
OpenAI launches program to design new ‘domain-specific’ AI benchmarks

OpenAI Pioneers Program Benchmarks
OpenAI has launched the OpenAI Pioneers Program to create new domain-specific AI benchmarks that better reflect real-world performance.
The initiative aims to develop evaluations for specialized fields including legal, finance, insurance, healthcare, and accounting—areas where current benchmark limitations have become evident. OpenAI notes that many existing benchmarks measure performance on esoteric tasks or can be gamed, citing recent controversies like the LM Arena benchmark and Meta's Maverick model.
The first cohort will focus on startups working on "high-value, applied use cases where AI can drive real-world impact." In addition to creating benchmarks that will eventually be shared publicly, participating companies will have opportunities to work with OpenAI's team on model improvements through reinforcement fine-tuning.
Why it matters: By shaping how success is measured in specific industries, OpenAI could influence not just how AI models are evaluated—but how they’re built, deployed, and trusted.

Will A.I. Save the News?

AI is reshaping how news is created, delivered, and consumed
The details:
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming how we create, distribute, and consume news. From Google's AI overviews that summarize articles to Perplexity's "Discovery Daily" podcast with AI-generated scripts read by synthetic voices, the technology is disrupting journalism on both supply and demand sides.
While simple content like sports recaps and weather reports appear most vulnerable to AI replacement, the technology could actually enhance investigative journalism. Zach Seward, editorial director of AI initiatives at the New York Times, believes "the biggest opportunity when it comes to AI for journalism is investigations and research," enabling reporters to analyze "tens of thousands of pages of unorganized documents, or hundreds of hours of video" previously beyond human capacity.
However, the economics remain troubling. Even if readers value human journalists, will they support the organizations that employ them? As AI becomes more sophisticated, we may see individual voices survive while institutions falter, potentially leaving us with AI-summarized wire reports, independent newsletters, and little else.
Social media platforms face similar disruption as AI-generated content becomes indistinguishable from human posts. Yet AI's ability to reformulate information for different audiences could prove valuable. The same news story could be personalized for various demographics, allowing readers to consume content tailored to their specific circumstances.
As AI quality improves, sophisticated news organizations remain protected by their reputation for accuracy and human expertise. "As the internet fills up with AI-generated slop, the value of being able to say, 'This was reported and written by the reporters whose faces you see on the byline' only goes up," notes Seward. Yet if artificial general intelligence arrives sooner than expected, we might come to associate AI "bylines" with balance and comprehensiveness.
The author has integrated AI into his news consumption, using ChatGPT and Perplexity to explore topics more deeply. While traditional news follows events forward in time, AI excels at providing historical context and sideways connections, allowing readers to trace stories backward through time or across related subjects. This conversational approach to news consumption proves more efficient and intellectually stimulating than traditional browsing.
What makes this crucial: AI could offer personalized, interactive news experiences that complement human reporting—but whether it will empower journalism or erode its foundations remains an open question.
