Anthropic unveils Claude Sonnet 4.5 with enhanced coding capabilities

Anthropic launches Claude Sonnet 4.5, its best AI model for coding

Anthropic has released Claude Sonnet 4.5, marking a significant advancement in AI coding capabilities. The new frontier model promises state-of-the-art performance on coding benchmarks and represents a major step forward from prototype development to production-ready application building.

The model is now accessible through both the Claude API and the Claude chatbot interface. Developers can expect the same competitive pricing structure as Claude Sonnet 4: $3 per million input tokens (approximately 750,000 words) and $15 per million output tokens, making it cost-effective for extensive development projects.

Anthropic's AI models have gained substantial traction among developers and enterprises over the past year, primarily due to their exceptional software engineering performance. Major tech companies including Apple and Meta have reportedly integrated Claude AI models into their internal operations. The company has also built a thriving business providing API access to popular AI coding platforms such as Cursor, Windsurf, and Replit.

However, the competitive landscape has intensified with OpenAI's GPT-5 challenging Anthropic's market position by outperforming Claude models across various coding benchmarks. This has prompted Anthropic to accelerate their development timeline and enhance their offerings.

According to Anthropic AI researcher David Hershey, traditional benchmarks fail to capture the full scope of Claude Sonnet 4.5's capabilities. During early enterprise trials, the model demonstrated remarkable autonomy, coding continuously for up to 30 hours. Beyond simple application development, the AI successfully managed complex tasks including database service setup, domain name purchasing, and conducting SOC 2 security audits.

Industry leaders have praised the new model's capabilities. Cursor CEO Michael Truell highlighted Claude Sonnet 4.5's state-of-the-art performance, particularly on longer-horizon coding tasks. Similarly, Windsurf CEO Jeff Wang described it as representing a "new generation of coding models," emphasizing its potential to transform development workflows.

Beyond coding improvements, Anthropic claims Claude Sonnet 4.5 is their most aligned frontier AI model to date. The company has significantly reduced rates of sycophancy and deception compared to previous versions, while also enhancing the model's resistance to prompt injection attacks – a critical security improvement for enterprise applications.

Alongside the model launch, Anthropic introduced the Claude Agent SDK, providing developers with the same infrastructure that powers Claude Code. This toolkit enables developers to build custom agents tailored to their specific needs and workflows.

For Max subscribers, Anthropic is offering a temporary research preview called "Imagine with Claude." This feature demonstrates real-time software generation capabilities, responding to user requests dynamically without relying on predetermined functionality or prewritten code templates.

The rapid release cycle reflects the intensely competitive AI landscape, where companies regularly ship flagship models every few months. Claude Sonnet 4.5 arrives less than two months after Anthropic's previous release, Claude Opus 4.1. This accelerated development pace makes maintaining a competitive advantage increasingly challenging, as technological leads can be short-lived in the fast-evolving AI market.

The launch positions Anthropic to reclaim its leadership in AI-powered software development, offering developers and enterprises a more capable, secure, and reliable coding assistant for building production-grade applications.

Startup Maximor raises $9M to replace Excel with AI agents

Former Microsoft execs launch AI agents to end Excel-led finance

Two former Microsoft executives have launched Maximor, securing $9 million in seed funding to replace Excel spreadsheets with AI agents for finance teams. Despite expensive financial software, many companies still rely on Excel for reconciliation and month-end closes.

Maximor's AI agents connect directly to ERP, CRM, and billing systems, providing real-time financial visibility. Early customer Rently cut its closing process from eight days to four. The startup targets companies with $50+ million revenue and offers human accountants as backup support.

⚡ Trends for the Future

AI recruiter Alex raises $17M to automate initial job interviews

Alex secures Series A funding to automate recruiting interviews.

Job seekers should prepare for more initial screening interviews, but not because there are more positions available. Instead, recruiters overwhelmed with qualifying applicants are turning to AI to handle routine screening tasks like background checks, salary discussions, and availability confirmation.

Alex, an AI recruiting startup, has secured $17 million in Series A funding led by Peak XV Partners to expand its automated interview platform. The round included participation from Y Combinator, Uncorrelated Ventures, and several Fortune 500 CHROs, following a $3 million seed round led by 1984 Ventures.

Co-founder Aaron Wang, formerly of Facebook and hedge fund experience, launched Alex 18 months ago to conduct autonomous video and phone interviews with job applicants. "Our AI recruiter does thousands of interviews a day and helps people get hired at some of the biggest companies in the world," Wang explained.

While Wang declined to name specific clients, he revealed that Alex serves Fortune 100 companies, financial institutions, nationwide restaurant chains, and Big 4 accounting firms. The startup's voice AI tool can interview applicants shortly after they apply, handling initial screening efficiently.

Alex faces competition from other AI recruiting companies including HeyMilo, ConverzAI, and Ribbon. Notably, Mercor, now an AI data labeling company reportedly seeking a $10 billion valuation, also began as an AI recruiter.

The startup's long-term vision extends beyond screening interviews. Alex aims to interview millions of job applicants to create professional profiles that surpass LinkedIn's current offerings. "Our thesis is that a 10-minute conversation with you tells me a whole lot more about you than your LinkedIn profile does," Wang said.

Currently, Alex focuses on freeing recruiters from routine screening tasks, allowing them to concentrate on building relationships with pre-qualified candidates and advising hiring managers. Investors view AI interviewing as an inevitable trend that companies will widely adopt.
