Amazon expands Health AI assistant to website and mobile app
Amazon launches its healthcare AI assistant on its website and app
Amazon has significantly expanded access to its healthcare AI assistant, bringing Health AI to its main website and mobile app. Previously exclusive to One Medical's platformβthe healthcare company Amazon purchased for $3.9 billion in 2023βthe assistant is now available to all users regardless of Prime membership status.
The Health AI assistant offers comprehensive healthcare support, including answering health questions, interpreting medical records, managing prescription renewals, and booking appointments. While it can provide general health information without accessing personal data, its true strength lies in personalized guidance when users share their medical information.
Privacy and Security Measures
Given growing concerns about AI companies using personal conversations for training purposes, Amazon has implemented several privacy protections. The company trains Health AI models using abstracted patterns without directly identifying information. For instance, when multiple patients ask about medication interactions, Amazon uses these patterns while keeping patient identities private to improve future responses.
All interactions occur within a HIPAA-compliant environment, protected by encryption and strict access controls. Only authorized personnel with specific job functionsβsuch as service maintenance, clinical quality assurance, and technical supportβcan access conversation data.
With user permission, Health AI accesses health information through the Health Information Exchange, a secure nationwide system for sharing patient medical data. This enables the assistant to interpret lab results, diagnoses, and medical records for personalized recommendations.
Integration with One Medical Services
Health AI serves as a gateway to professional medical care through One Medical providers. Prime members receive up to five free direct-message consultations for over 30 common conditions, including cold and flu, allergies, acid reflux, pink eye, UTIs, erectile dysfunction, anti-aging skincare, and hair loss. Non-Prime members can access these services through pay-per-visit options.
How to Access and Use Health AI
Users can sign up through Amazon's Health page and will receive email notifications when access becomes available during the rollout. Once activated, users create or sign into their Amazon Health profile to begin conversations with the AI assistant.
The system handles queries like "Can you explain my recent cholesterol results and what they mean for me?" or "I'm feeling congested and have a sore throat. What should I do?" providing both general guidance and personalized recommendations based on individual health data.
Competitive Healthcare AI Landscape
Amazon's expansion reflects the rapidly growing healthcare AI sector. OpenAI launched ChatGPT Health in January, specifically designed for health-related queries. Shortly after, Anthropic introduced Claude for Healthcare, demonstrating how major AI companies are competing for dominance in the healthcare assistance market.
This move positions Amazon uniquely in the healthcare AI space by leveraging its existing e-commerce platform, Prime membership base, and One Medical acquisition. Unlike standalone health AI tools, Amazon's approach integrates shopping, health services, and medical consultations within a single ecosystem.
The expansion represents Amazon's broader healthcare ambitions, combining artificial intelligence, telemedicine, and traditional healthcare services to create a comprehensive digital health platform accessible to millions of users through familiar Amazon interfaces.
π Which AI Dilemma Should We Tackle First?
- β οΈ 1. Speed vs. Understanding The rapid pace of AI development is outpacing our ability to comprehend or regulate it.
- π§ 2. Lack of Alignment AI systems donβt necessarily optimize for whatβs good for humansβeven when they seem to.
- π’ 3. Power Concentration AI is consolidating power into the hands of a few tech giants and governments.
- π€ 4. Automation Without Purpose AI is replacing jobs faster than society is creating meaningful alternatives.
- π 5. Loss of Human Agency We risk becoming passive consumers of AI decisions, losing creativity and independent thinking.
Zendesk purchases AI customer service automation company Forethought
Zendesk acquires agentic customer service startup Forethought
Zendesk announced its acquisition of Forethought, an AI-powered customer service automation startup, with the deal closing by March. Forethought, winner of the 2018 TechCrunch Battlefield competition, was ahead of the AI agent trend, serving major clients like Upwork and Grammarly while handling over a billion monthly customer interactions by 2025.
The acquisition terms remain undisclosed. Forethought had raised $115 million from investors including NEA and Blue Cloud Ventures. Zendesk plans to integrate Forethought's technology into its AI products, accelerating its roadmap by over a year while continuing support for existing customers.

Canopii looks to succeed where past indoor farms have not
Portland startup builds autonomous robotic greenhouses for local produce farming.
David Ashton's inspiration for Canopii came from driving through California's drought-stricken Central Valley during college, watching endless lettuce farms grow in harsh conditions only to ship produce across the country. This experience sparked his vision to shrink produce supply chains through localized farming.
Portland-based Canopii has developed robotic greenhouses that autonomously handle the entire growing process from seeding to harvest without human intervention. These basketball court-sized facilities can produce up to 40,000 pounds of herbs and specialty greens annually while requiring minimal water resources.
Ashton's journey began unexpectedly when an agtech company he planned to join filed for bankruptcy. Working nights while his wife attended medical school, he spent three years developing his concept. The National Science Foundation provided crucial early support with a $250,000 grant for a prototype, followed by $1 million for a full-scale version.
After five years of development, Canopii has achieved a significant milestone with their fully autonomous farm. The company has raised approximately $3.6 million, with $2.3 million from grants and the remainder from strategic investors, deliberately avoiding venture capital during the development phase.
Ashton acknowledges the indoor farming sector's troubled history, noting how companies like Bowery Farming and Plenty raised hundreds of millions before failing. He argues Canopii's approach differs fundamentally from vertical farms, emphasizing their intentionally slow, methodical development process.
"The capital stack has to be diversified beyond VC," Ashton explained. "We're still iterating on one farm, which has allowed us to learn so much. I think if we got VC right away and tried to scale after year one or two, that's not possible with food infrastructure."
The company has attracted interest from schools, restaurants, and casinos. With automation achieved, Canopii plans to build its first commercial farm in downtown Portland and eventually franchise the technology. The farms run on standard household power, making them suitable for diverse locations including residential backyards.
